Two New Friends and a Found Missionary

As senior missionaries we are not supposed to eat in the members’ homes like younger missionaries do.  But Ronald, pictured below, came to our house to invite us and we just couldn’t say no.  He is such a kind soul.  We so enjoyed his yummy food and the wonderful Spirit in his home last Sunday.

One of the people we have been blessed to get to know is an adorable, hard-working, scrappy little New Englander named Betsy.  One of her ancestors is Brigham Young’s aunt, so she is interested in the Restoration and her relatives’ part in it.  She has dedicated her life to saving children and animals that others have given up on.  She’s raised several foster children, and now boards and feeds horses that are too old to work, but she doesn’t want to see them put down.  She is an amazing example of Christlike service!

Notice the Rottweilers on either side of her?  I was NOT about to get out of the car when
I saw them, so we had our lesson in our car.  😲

When we were in my daughter’s ward in Maryland in December, a woman there told us her son was serving in the Eugene mission.  We had a Zone Conference in Medford this week.  (Finally, a chance to go to Costco.  And In and Out.  And Trader Joe’s.  And Crumbl…) Half of the mission was at the meeting, but there was no time before, during or after to try to find this Elder. (Plus we all had masks on so it would have been really hard to find him, name badges notwithstanding!)  Of all the places we could have eaten after the 4.5 hour meeting, we chose the VERY restaurant that this Elder and his companions chose.  And we were the only ones in the restaurant!  So funny!

The food was so good - not a lot of restaurant options in Alturas!

We HAVE to include one of the exquisite sunsets from this week.  And a fun fact about Alturas - I think I mentioned the town has one traffic light; a red blinking 4-way.  We found out this week it is the ONLY traffic light in the whole 4,000 square-mile COUNTY! (Twice as big as Utah County) We really are REMOTE!!!!
Again - just out our front window!
