Meeting New Friends, Saying Good-bye to Another

Last Tuesday evening we had a knock on the door (second time since we’ve come here, not counting UPS!) and a cute young woman excitedly told us she served her mission in Alturas and wanted to show her boyfriend, with whom she was touring her former mission, the house where she had stayed for six months.  We invited them in and they ended up spending the night with us.  In the morning we took them to a café she had loved while she was here that we love too.  It is not a place we would EVER have chosen as we drove by, but we initially went to meet a couple of Branch Members who own and run the place.  And we have gone back for their INCREDIBLE pancakes!

In case you can't read the writing ;) it says, "Modoc County Auction Yard Café."
It was rather early and we were hurrying so no make up for me yet. Yikes!

A few weeks ago I mentioned that Craig was able to give a blessing to a friend we are teaching who was hospitalized with a variety of issues.  He was taken from the little hospital here and ended up in a Las Vegas hospital, then released but had nowhere to go and no way to get home.  He asked if we knew anyone he could stay with there.  I’m not sure what all happened, but I texted him nearly every day, checking on him and letting him know we were thinking of him and that Heavenly Father loved him.  We haven’t gotten all the details, but we do know he died a tragic death while there.  We have been so sad thinking of him feeling so alone and desperate, but we are grateful that we had talked about the Plan of Salvation with him, and while he was gone we had assured him we were thinking of him and loved him. We are grateful for him to be out of his physical and emotional pain and in the loving arms of our Savior.

Last week I dropped Craig off at the Church for a meeting, and drove around looking for a place to get a better view of the sunset.  I've since scouted better places.  Nearly every night is so exquisite! 💛

  3. Of course you hosted that sister last minute - you're amazing! So sad to hear about the friend, but I"m sure you brought him peace and hope in his last days. That sunset is incredible. I'm glad one of your favorite things followed you to Alturas. :)
